Questions we get on most jobs
Not sure yours are worth doing? Call and describe them.
We will tell you either way.
What does it cost?
$189 for a car, coupe or sedan. $229 for an SUV, truck or van. Both headlights
either way, and that is the entire price list. A new housing runs several hundred
dollars per side before anyone fits it.
How long does it take?
Most cars take 45 minutes to an hour. Badly oxidized lenses run longer, and you will
hear that when we arrive, not halfway through.
Do I need to be there?
Only for long enough to let us at the car. Plenty of people leave us in an office lot and
come back to finished headlights, and we send a text when we are packing up.
How long will they stay clear?
Guaranteed for 3 years. If they haze up inside that, we come
back and redo them for free. A bare polish with nothing sealed over it, which is all most
kits and most cheap jobs are, starts going again within a few months of this sun.
Is this as good as new headlights?
For haze and yellowing, yes, at a fraction of the price and without breaking the factory
seals. A cracked lens, moisture trapped in the housing or failed hardware needs replacing.
Polishing fixes none of those, and we will say so on arrival instead of selling you
something that cannot help.
What if my lenses are too far gone?
You will hear it before anything starts and the visit costs you nothing. We make that
call standing at your car, not over the phone, so it comes from someone looking at the
lenses.
Why do headlights go yellow?
The lens is polycarbonate with a thin factory UV coating over it. Sun breaks that coating
down over a few years. Once it has gone, the plastic underneath oxidizes and starts
scattering your light sideways instead of putting it on the road. The damage is the
surface itself, so nothing you wipe on will reverse it. A car parked outside in Orange
County gets there faster than the same car somewhere with real winters, and we see a
lot of it.
How is this different from a kit off the shelf?
A kit is one abrasive step and a wipe-on sealant. It looks good for a few weeks. We sand
past the full depth of the damage, polish back to clear, then coat it with something
rated in years instead of washes.
Can hazy headlights get me a ticket in California?
They can. The vehicle code says headlamps have to work and throw a proper beam, and a
lens hazed enough to scatter the light fails that on a bad night. California runs no
annual safety inspection to catch it either. Nothing forces the issue until an officer
decides to look, or until you are the one who cannot see.
Does this help with a smog check?
No, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing. A smog check covers emissions.
Headlights are not part of it. Do this for what you can see at night, not for a
test.
Where do you cover?
Anywhere in Orange County, California. If you are somewhere near the edge of that, call and ask. We
can usually make it work, and if we cannot we will point you at someone who can.
